Mr. Kamran Riaz is a highly accomplished Financial Expert with over 25 years of extensive experience in financial modeling, project finance advisory, and regulatory affairs within the energy sector. He has held several key positions throughout his career, working with both public and private sector organizations as well as international financial institutions. He currently serves as a Financial Modeling & Operation Planning Expert at PITCO (Pvt) Ltd., where he is responsible for developing financial strategies, conducting detailed financial assessments, and advising on energy tariffs and regulatory reforms for various power sector projects. His career is marked by significant contributions to the energy sector, including his role as Deputy Director (Tariff) at the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) in Islamabad. During his tenure at NEPRA, Kamran played a pivotal role in the development and refinement of power purchase agreements, utility infrastructure investment programs, and the creation of tariff models for both conventional and renewable energy projects. Notably, he was instrumental in assisting the Government of Pakistan in issuing benchmark indicative tariffs for power generation from the Thar coal reserves, a project that was critical to the country’s energy security. As an Independent Consultant, he provided project finance advisory services in the USA and Pakistan, focusing on capital investments, financial modeling, and the structuring of financing instruments for renewable energy projects. He has also served as a Team Lead for USAID’s Power Distribution Program in Pakistan, where he led a team of financial analysts and tariff experts in conducting Cost of Service (CoS) studies for public sector distribution companies.
