European Union (EU)
From March 2009 to February 2013, PITCO, with the European Union’s support, developed a model for sustainable production through energy and resource recovery initiatives in the textile and tannery sectors in Pakistan. The project aimed to address the resource-intensive nature of these sectors, which rely heavily on gas for steam and power generation. The initiative involved more than 1300 SMEs in the textile and tannery sectors, with the potential to extend to other manufacturing industries such as sugar, pulp & paper, and steel re-rolling.
The services provided included conducting life cycle analyses, capacity assessments of local industrial equipment manufacturers, and transferring technology for energy and resource efficiency equipment manufacturing. The project also implemented energy-efficient pilot initiatives, developed business cases for energy and resource efficiency, and created a sustainable production network. Policy dialogue and dissemination activities were conducted to create an enabling environment for sustainable practices in the manufacturing industry.
