From September 2018 to June 2019, PITCO, in collaboration with Fichtner GmbH & Co. KG, conducted a pre-feasibility study for the rehabilitation of six existing hydropower projects (HPPs) and the identification of 20 new small hydropower project (SHPP) sites in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Funded by the KfW Group, the project aimed to support rural development and strengthen the rural power sector by utilizing renewable energy. The study involved site visits, analysis of HPP rehabilitation projects, transmission line surveys for power evacuation, and preparation of environmental and social safeguard studies, including a review of the Resettlement Action Plan.
PITCO’s services included assisting in the preparation of site visits in cooperation with KfW’s Islamabad office, the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan (Gov. G-B), and the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP). PITCO conducted site visits to all six existing HPPs listed for rehabilitation, analyzed the rehabilitation projects and new SHPP projects, and prepared a pre-feasibility study report. Our team also conducted transmission line surveys, prepared environmental and social safeguard studies, and reviewed the Resettlement Action Plan to ensure sustainable project development.
