From March 2012 to May 2014, PITCO, in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PWC) India, implemented the ADB National CFL Project to replace 30 million inefficient incandescent lamps with efficient compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) in the domestic sector of Pakistan. The project, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), aimed to achieve energy savings of 1,000 MW. The project involved distributing CFLs to registered domestic customers through door-to-door delivery by eight power distribution companies (DISCOs) and Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESCO).
PITCO’s services included identifying key sectors for the programmatic CDM approach, preparing PoA guidebooks, providing technical inputs for design and monitoring procedures, developing implementation guidelines, and supporting the project team in getting approvals from the DNA and CDM EB. The project also involved designing and conducting training for DISCO staff, developing a uniform database for CFL distribution, and ensuring compliance with CDM requirements. The outcomes included the successful distribution of 11.1 million CFLs, resulting in anticipated savings of 475 MW.
